After four years of “My Daily Walk” this is the last of the series. No not last of our posting material. Thank you for all the followers for these years. Some tell me that they have not missed one single day. Stay tuned starting tomorrow for our vision for 2016.

“HE WILL PERFORM IT,” CONCLUSION!

Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Paul  was confident,  fully convinced, of the  truth  of what  God said.  These are  the  words  of a  man  who  had  no  doubt,  one  who knew  the  object  of his faith  very  well.  He  realized  that  the  good work was begun by God and  not by man.

Someone said,  “For everyone  that receives the Gospel is led instinctively to seek to propagate  the Gospel. The absence of this missionary spirit is proof positive that  the  Gospel  has only nominally  been received.”

Paul  was confident,  and we can be also  because of several things.

  • The personality of the  work.  Ours  is a personal and  progressive  Christianity,  and  it is a  good  work in its beginning, middle, and ending.  It is good in its influence on self and society.
  • The people of the  work. It must  be inside  of you, before  it can be seen on the outside.
  • The Person of the  work. “He which hath begun a good  work in you will perform  it …”
  • It is a personal work – with people and  the person of Christ Who will perform  it to the end.  Personal Christianity is a Divine thing. Think of it, He is the Eternal  Logos – Word.
  • The performance of the  work.  The Greek  word for perform  is epitelesei, which  means that  God  will carry  it to completion and perfect  it. God  started it, and  He will complete it, but not without our cooperation and  involvement. Where  God has begun a work in the soul,  He will perform  – complete it. God will not leave  His work  unfinished or  abandoned; He  will  continue to  complete it until the  day  when  Christ  shall  appear to  glorify  Himself  in triumph and glory. Just  think: He completed another great  year!

“HE WILL PERFORM IT!”

Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Paul  does not use  his regular  title in this text; he  has a more personal relationship with these Philippians. He shows his intimate affection  for Timothy, his own son  in the faith. Paul  was loved by all the  Philippians,  and  they  were  very  valuable  to  him.  Paul  never failed to express his thankfulness for them,  as in verse 2. He thanks them  for their  help  and  cooperation in the  work of the  Gospel.

In verse 4, we see the  word joy for the  first time. Joy is the  theme of Philippians.  Could  it be  because they  brought  him so much  joy in their labor for the Lord?

He is so united  with Christ that he feels  the heart  of Christ and  loves with the love of Christ in verse 8. He finds no fault with their love,  but   prays “that your love  may  yet  abound more  and  more” in verse 9. In other  words,  he  prays for their love to continue to grow.

In verse 10, he teaches them  and  us that  with love comes spiritual sense, insight, hearing, and  discernment. These graces will help  them  to recognize things  that  are  excellent. Being confident  simply  means that  what  they  have  faithfully begun they will  faithfully  continue to  the  end.

Sometimes when  it seems as though  God  has forsaken you,  suddenly  you  realize  that  He  has started something in you  and  will  continue  it  until the  end.  As  a matter  of fact, there  will not be anything  lacking on His part to support you.  You can  be  fully and  firmly persuaded or convinced that God will always  do His part. To be concluded tomorrow!
