This Psalm tells us THREE WAYS to express our joy and praise:
BY A NEW SONG VERSE 2.
BY SCRIPTURAL PREACHING VERSES 3-4.
We are to preach and not to entertain. In V. 3 we are to preach Christ’s salvation: His glory and wonders. To preach to all, with no one left out.
We express our joy, praise by 1. Our song. 2. By our Scriptural preaching
BY OUR SACRIFICIAL GIVING VERSES 7-8.
- The METHOD for giving is tithe and offerings.
- The testimonies are certain:
Noah built and sacrificed on the altar Genesis 18:22.
Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek Genesis 14:20.
Jacob vowed to give his tithe in Genesis 28:22.
The Jews tithe was one third of their income.
The New Testament Early Church Acts 2:44-45, “had all thing common.”
Paul and Barnabus gave and gathered for the poor of Jerusalem in Acts 11:29-30, “according to ability.”
Paul and the carnal Christians at Corinth 1 Corinthians 16:1-3, “As God has prospered him so let him give.”
Jesus Christ said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
- The need is constant:
Think of all the ministries of the church: Payroll of the preacher and staff, mortgage, insurance, maintenance, power, telephone, office supplies, cleaning materials, schools, literature, equipment, buses and vans, etc. not to mention the needy and hungry we commanded to reach through missions and soul-winning.
Our own spiritual life demands that we make these offerings.
