“CAUSES OF MENTAL DEPRESSION AND HOW TO CONQUER IT!” Part 2

It is our prayer that these notes will be helpful to each one who reads them. Be sure to place them somewhere for easy access when needed.
SATAN’S GREATEST TOOL – DISCOURAGEMENT! (Numbers 21:4-9)

Some time ago we said that looking around brings discouragement (depression of one’s spirit). We talked about the causes of and remedies for discouragement. We learned how to turn “discouragement and depression” to “delight and direction.” Now I want to address how Satan uses discouragement and how we can defeat it.

The end of the wilderness wanderings came in chapter 20. In chapter 21 we see the first victory in their warfare and the eighth and last murmuring. This is the first victory for Israel since the conflict with Amalek back in the first part of the wanderings after leaving Egypt. God clearly gave them the victory; however, they now have to go by way of Mt. Hor near the Red Sea. Since they cannot go through Edom, they have to go in a circle and come in from the East. But the way is hard. In their plight, they begin to complain. Moses had seen his brother Aaron die at Mt. Hor, and now, all alone, he has to deal with the complaining of the people; yet he was not alone because God was with him. (Verses 4-5) The people were getting weary of tent life and of the inconveniences of perpetually moving, but they forgot God’s many mercies and the great deliverance which the Lord had wrought for them. Charles Spurgeon said, “Fretting, groaning, and complaining are very easy, but they are ungrateful, unholy and useless habits. How wretched a thing is discontent? Complaining and discontent is always the same old and cruel slander; but each time there is more sin in it.”

They acted like serpents in hissing at Moses, and now serpents are sent to punish them (verse 6). God has many ways of chastising sinners, He who made Moses’ rod a serpent can also use a serpent as His rod to smite Israel. He will sting those who sting His servants. You have to admire Moses. He prays at once for the people who had been so harsh against him in their complaining. (Verses 7-8) What a lesson in returning good for evil! The people were discouraged because of the way. Satan will always try to get the Christian to stop living for the lord by using every possible way that he can. But when all else fails, he uses his greatest tool – the tool of discouragement.

“CAUSES OF MENTAL DEPRESSION AND HOW TO CONQUER IT”

I know this is rather long, but thought it would be better to post it all in one day. Just takes a few minutes longer, but I believe a great help to so many.

DISCOURAGEMENT COMES WHEN A CHRISTIAN TAKES HIS EYES OFF THE LORD. The children of Israel took their eyes off the Lord and put on their circumstances.

A. A Christian sometimes gets discouraged when the way is too hard. God says, “And the cause (problem) that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will bear it.”

B. A Christian sometimes gets discouraged when the task is too difficult. All of us face hard problems and tasks at times. Look at Nehemiah in the building of the wall, his people said, “we are not able to build the wall.” Why? There was too much rubbish and the burden bearers were weakened. What did Nehemiah do? He looked unto the Lord. You say, “God, what you are asking is too hard for me.” Yes, but is anything too hard for God?

C. A Christian sometimes gets discouraged when he looks at the prosperity of the wicked. (Psalm 73). But, here are a few truths about what God says about prosperity: The true secret about prosperity is:

1. The Lord’s blessing: Psalm 35:27, “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”
2. God’s guidance: Genesis 24, when the servant gets the bride for Isaac.

3. Trusting in God: Nehemiah 2:20, “Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.”
4. Listening to God’s prophets: Ezra 6:14, “And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.”

5. Believing God’s Word: 2 Chronicles 20:20, “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”

It is a sin to fret over those who prosper and do evil.

“CAN GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN?” Conclusion!

Please review Joel 2:1-17 again.

The need of national healing is evident. The cause is only through good people doing better.

THE CONSEQUENCE OF REPENTANCE AND SALVATION VERSES 18-27.

THIRTY- FOUR PERCENET CLAIM SOME KIND OF SALVATION EXPERIENCE.

For a while I believed that we are beginning to see a reversal of secular humanists, but that was just a very short time before President Obama.

SEVERAL OBSERVATIONS:

Only Christ can give true liberty Galatians 5:1.
We must turn from our sin 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Build upon the good in this country.
Stand for God and country.
Teach and train your children in the love of Christ.
Receive Him as your own personal Saviour for liberty.

Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Conclusion: If America is ever going to come back to God is has to start with us. Yes, I do believe that America can be saved, but only as we as Christians obey 2 Chronicles 7:14 and the lost in the world repent of their sin.

“CAN AMERICA BE SAVED?” Part 2

Please read Joel 2:17

I think we need to understand that our forefathers gave us a Republic not a Democracy.

You say preacher, what is the difference?

A Republic is a government made up of laws, such as our Constitution and Bill of rights. The law holds the government in check and prevents the majority (acting through the government) from violating the rights of an individual.

A Democracy on the other hand is a government of unrestrained majority rule. The reason we are different is because America was blessed with the rarest of men who had faith, wisdom and character. Faith to recognize that the rights of man are endowed by their Creator. The wisdom to understand that the proper role of government is simply to protect these unalienable rights; and the character to create a government based on such principles.

This year we are celebrating the 241st anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. How far have we gone these 240 plus years in the protection of that sacred trust given us by our forefathers?

Can America Be Saved?

LET US FIRST OF ALL LOOK AT THE CALL TO REPENTANCE VERSES 12-17.

With abortion clinics all over the land.
Drugs on the rampage even in the lower grades.
Pornography on almost every street corner in our cities as well as on the internet, movies and television.
Federal Judges ruling that “one nation under God” is unconstitutional.

We could go on and on. But, there are definitely some positive things we as Christians can do in the saving of our Nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
If this nation ever comes back to God it will only be because of the Spirit of God moving on the people of God.

To be perfectly honest with you I believe that people are fed up with the Hollywood crowd dictating our morality, and the fashion industry determining how our teen-agers dress; but they do not know what to do nor are they willing to pay the price.

“CAN GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN?”

Joel 2:1-17

Many years ago Evangelist, Dr. Phil Shuler asked me to preach a message on “CAN AMERICA BE SAVED?” Or “CAN GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN?”

I have rarely been more consumed with a question in my ministry as with this. You see there are many things I love about America.

We do not know much about Joel, son of Pethuel. The book was written about 800 B. C. and about the time of Elisha.

He wrote of plaques of Locusts and drought. He compared this to the coming judgment in the Day of the Lord.

He wrote of the future invasion of Israel and the great Revival at Pentecost in the last days.

In Joel’s day God called Israel to repent and seek His face but the same message is preached to the future remnant of Israel, as the “Day of The Lord” (End of Time of Gentiles) draws closer. So, the message is for us as well as to the nation of Israel.

It would be easy to focus on all that is wrong with America, and it goes without saying that much is wrong, but there is also much right with our nation.

In a Hospital or any kind of sickness there has to be a diagnosis of what the problem is before healing. So with our nation: This could be applied to homes as well.
