Point # 1 was, “INCONSISTANCY WITH PARENTS”
II. ALSO, PERMISSIVENESS WILL CAUSE A BREAKDOWN BETWEEN PARENT AND CHILD.
It is called “spoiling your child”, but “ruining your child” is a more accurate description. Permissiveness gives way to a lack of self-control, and a child who does not exercise self-control will develop into a juvenile delinquent. Biblical love, on the other hand will eliminate permissiveness.
III. DISCIPLINE PROVIDES SECURITY AND LOVE IN THE HOME.
According to the Bible, if you don’t have discipline, you don’t have love. God said to Eli, a priest in the house of God, “Wherefore…honourest thy sons above me ……? 1 Samuel 2:29 and in 3:13 the Bible says that God “will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.”
Eli lost his priesthood because he would not judge or discipline his sons. You may call it love, but you’re sinning against God when you fail to discipline your children properly. Love is stronger than death, the Bible says, and “Many waters cannot quench love…”
How can one have and develop love in the home?
A. BY HAVING THE RIGHT RESPECT FOR GOD AND BY PUTTING CHRIST IN HIS PROPER PLACE AS THE HEAD OF THE HOME.
B. BY BEING OPEN AND HONEST IN YOUR AFFECTIONS TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER.
C. BY SPEAKING KINDLY TO ONE ANOTHER AND STRIVING FOR AN ATTITUDE OF TOGETHERNESS.
Lack of love should be recognized in Biblical terms: it is sin! The good thing about sin is that it can be confessed and forgiven. The Lord will then give you that spiritual heart you desire and enable you to demonstrate and experience the blessings of true Biblical love in your home.
