“You’ll see vat you get from sat” is a statement Mom used when I was in trouble at home or with a friend. In her broken English she was trying to communicate the results of running around with the wrong crowd. Her reference in particular was about a friend who, in her opinion, was a “bump,” by that she meant that he was a “bum.” Needless to say, she was absolutely correct and had some insight, as mothers do. She was trying to teach me to be careful in choosing my relationships. The problem was that she did not really define “vat I would get from sat.” May I say that I have learned much since I first heard those words! The Bible teaches that we reap what we sow:
Galatians 6:7-9 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
What a Mom we had, wow! She brought seven of us kids through World War II. With our Dad in the German army, she had her hands full (especially with me 🙂 Five of the kids are still alive and going strong and I believe much of it is because of a sweet dedicated mom.
