Please read Psalm 51
This Psalm has been called the “sinners guide.”
The song writer said, “What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus?”
I think that there is an important lesson in the song as well as in the scripture: “nothing, but nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
You can be close, but not close enough.
I. FIRST OF ALL, PLEADING WILL NOT WASH AWAY YOUR SIN V. 1.
Pleading is good, but will not cleanse from sin. David pleads with a loving God.
John Trapp said, “This was the devils nest-egg that caused many sins to be laid, one upon another.”
Think about this, the same way David came unto Bathsheba Nathan came unto David.
Someone said, ‘This psalm is the brightest gem in the whole book.’
Martin Luther said, “There is no other song oftener sung or read in church than that of psalm fifty one.”
Someone else said, “I am sure this psalm is most applicable to me.”
David here is more upset over his sin than the consequence of it. I have heard it said that most murderers are more concerned about the chair than the crime.
A. His prayer was for mercy not justice.
B. For pardon and not pity, but for forgiveness.
