On Thursday we said that, I. PLEADING WILL NOT WASH AWAY YOUR SIN.
II. SECOND, CONFESSION WILL NOT WASH AWAY YOUR SIN VERSES 3-4.
- 1. gives personal accountability and responsibility – “my sin.”
- He gives proper acknowledgment –“against Thee, Thee only have I sinned.
III. INTELECTUAL INSIGHT WILL NOT WASH AWAY YOUR SIN VERSE 5.
- People today tend to blame their parents.
- People will also glame their pastor.
IV, DISCIPLINE OF TRUTH WILL NOT WASH AWAY YOUR SIN VERSE 6.
Not shadow or images, but real inward truth.
A French pear is called, “Le bon Chrétien,” because it is never rotten at the core – like the good Christian.
SO, WHAT CAN WASH AWAY MY SIN? Verse 17, “Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Purge … hyssop–The use of this plant in the ritual (Exodus 12:22; Numbers 19:6, 18) suggests the idea of atonement as prominent here; “purge”refers to vicarious satisfaction (Numbers 19:17-20).
Purge me with hyssop: “thou shalt make a sin-offering for me;” probably alluding to the cleansing of the leper: Leviticus 14:1, etc.
