Now, in Matthew chapter six we are given FOUR REASONSnot to be anxious for anything:
I. VERSE 25 LIFE IS MORE THAN FOOD AND CLOTHING FOR THE BODY.
Take no thought. Again, be not anxious. God will provide, because He has given life a far greater blessing and importance than food and clothing.Think about this: If He cares for the body (the greater), don’t you think He will care for (the lesser), our needs? Why? Because He has given the greater blessing of creating the body and certainly He will care for His creation – you and me.
Please don’t get me wrong, there is to be a certain degree of concern, but not to be anxious over it. In other words, it should not be our supreme concern. Not to mention the fact that our anxiety takes time we should be spending in being devoted to Him.
II. VERSE 26, YOU ARE GREATER THAN THE FOWL OF THE AIR.
They have no anxiety over food or clothing! The birds do not sow or reap, yet they are fed and give us music in the morning. They are never concerned about their food and none ever die of hunger. Why? They are fed by the Hand of God Himself.
Jesus is saying that you and I are greater than the fowl of the air. Do you really believe that He would feed the birds and leave you hungry? Put your confidence in Him and He will provide.
VERSE 27, WITH ALL YOUR ANXIETY, YOU CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING.
We cannot add or take away one cubit from our stature. Let me illustrate: God has ordered your height (not weight, ha) and you cannot change that. I am saying that God in His providence orders and arranges circumstances in your life. Beyond His care our efforts are empty and cause us great anxiety. Just as He orders our growth in the body, He also orders our supplies.
Psalm 39:5, “Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.” And v.erse 4 says,“teach me the measure of my days.”
WE WILL LOOK AT THE LAST ONE TOMORROW!
