Read Psalm 1:1-6
In verse 1 we are told what a blessed (happy) man does not do:
I. PLANT ME IN JESUS CHRIST AS MY SAVIOR VERSE 1.
A. HE DOES NOT ASSOCIATE HIMSELF WITH THE UNGODLY:
He does not take counsel (advice) from the ungodly.does not listen to them. There is nothing wrong with counsel…as long as it is not ungodly.
Who are the ungodly?
- ONE WHO JUST LEAVES GOD OUT.
- ONE WHO DOES NOT FEAR GOD.
- ONE WHO LIVES AS THOUGH GOD DOES NOT EXIST. They are the ones the scripture speaks of when it says:
Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” 16:2, “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes…”
The sinner may think he is all right, but he is a sinner. God’s Word says: Isaiah 55:7, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts.” 53:6,“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
What else does a blessed man not do?
B. HE DOES NOT STAND IN THE WAY OF SINNERS.
C. HE DOES NOT SIT IN THE SEAT OF THE SCORNFUL.
The scornful is the unbeliever who not only denies God, but he exhibits an antagonism and a hatred of God. We see this everywhere today.
