Read Matthew 11:1-15

Jesus said of John, “Among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist” Matthew 11:11. He was the last and greatest of the prophets in Matthew 11:13-14.

Nevertheless, he stood, like Moses, on the threshold of the Promised Land. He did not enter the kingdom of God proclaimed by Jesus; and consequently, “he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he” in Matthew 11:11.

Jesus could not have paid John a higher complement.  “Among them…..”John the Baptist was as great in strength of character as any man “born of a woman,” but, as to the Kingdom, his ministry was to announce that it was at hand.

The least in the Kingdom, when it is set up in glory will be greater than John in the fullness of the Lord’s power and glory.

Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus always knows when to rebuke, but also when to praise?

Not only is Jesus greater than John the Baptist: Tomorrow, we will study Jonah.
