Can you imagine how the Shepherds felt that night? One moment they were sleepily watching their flock verse 8, and the next, they were confronted by “The Angel of the Lord.” Little wonder, they were, “sore afraid.” But, the Angel calmed their fears and announced the wonderful news of that long-awaited Messiah. Verses 10-12.
In our text, the Angels constitute a “host” not just a Choir.
I. LOOK AT THE FIRST STANZA OF THE SONG:
Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies;
With the angelic hosts proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
The angels were present at the disobedience of Adam and Eve. God withdrew His fellowship from man, but finally the penalty has now been paid.
II. AND MAN WAS NOW RECONCILED WITH GOD:
2 Corinthians 5:20-21, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
III. LOOK AT THE 2ND STANZA OF THE SONG:
Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ the everlasting Lord:
Late in time behold Him come, Offspring of a virgins womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate Deity! Please as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel.
