1 Kings 18:17-40; Matthew 3:11-12.
Starting to go through a fairly mild winter and trying out all kinds of ways to keep warm in our homes. Why? Because it was in the middle of winter and very cold outside. The most natural thing is to dress warmly and turn up the heat. We use oil, gas or propane heaters to heat our homes, offices, factories and churches. We want to be warm and comfortable…But, what about the fire of our soul? What are we doing to keep it hot and burning? Have you lost it? Has the fire gone out?
There was a time when your soul was burning brightly for the Lord, lost, loved ones, friends and others. What has happened? This is a vital question.
Oh how we need to examine our hearts to see how cold we really are. What has happened to our Bible study, scripture memory, prayer, soul-winning, church building, giving, serving and our love for God as well as others?
I heard of a preacher who said during a sermon to his congregation, “Folks, I believe God wants this church to walk. I believe God wants this church to start walking.” A fellow in the front row said, “Let it walk, Lord; let it walk.” As the message continued, the preacher said, “I believe God wants this church to start running. I really do—I really believe God wants the church to run.” The man in front said, “Yes, let it run, Lord.” After a while, the preacher said, “I believe God wants this church to fly. I really believe God wants the church to just take off and fly.” The church member once again said, “Mmm, Lord, let it fly.” As the preacher continued preaching he said, “If we are going to fly, it is going to take some money to fly.” The man in front said, “Let it walk, Lord; let it walk.” Unknown.
Be honest, have you lost your fire? Has your fire gone out? Are you just putting in time or just existing? Are your spiritual eyes getting dim? Have you lost your vision? Is your fire dying out or have you lost it entirely? These are good questions and must be answered by each of us. How can I get it going again?
