Ephesians 6:10-18

I apologize for this being so long, lots of scripture.

One of the greatest needs in the Christian life is to know how to overcome bad habits, and temptation.

Because of the many comments and requests over the years I thought it would be appropriate for all our people to see the principles of overcoming daily temptations in the Christian life.

I believe this is one of the greatest truths we will ever learn and will without question change your life for the better if you will practice what is taught today. I would like to share this truth with you once again as we did for the very first time ten years ago.

That brings us to the first important truth:

A. The belt of truth in verse 14.

1 Pet 1:13, “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

We have the freedom of truth as well as the strength of it. Here is a question to ask a parent or teen-age son or daughter: “Are you involved in any immorality?

Let me say this: Satan will surely have a foothold in their life if they are, and keep it from their parents.

B. The breastplate of righteousness verse 14.

Isaiah 59:17, “For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.”

1 Thessalonians 5:8, “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.”

Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

C. Feet shod with the preparation for peace verse 15.

D. The shield of faith verse 16.

Luke 7:9, “When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

E. The helmet of salvation v. 17.

1 Timothy 1:19, “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:”

1 Peter 1:13, “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Remember that the helmet protects your mind.

F. The sword of the spirit verse 17.

Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

There are two offensive weapons in our warfare:

  1. The sword of the Spirit.
  2. The second is steadfast praying verse 18.
